Is old school or new school idea of education correct? Neither is but maybe a well thought out hybrid system could possibly be beneficial. So what is the difference between the two systems? Well there are too many things to list but here is one example of what I feel is a big difference in the two systems. When I went to MTU the university bragged about the quality of the graduates and did not make it easy enough to make sure all that enrolled passed. Only the students capable of learning the material to an old school standard had a chance to graduate. Compared to a new school method where I had a teacher say at the beginning of the course, if you show up and try all the homework you should pass and likely get an A. Now I know nobody wants a student to fail but I feel only the people deserving to pass should pass. We should not adjust any of our systems to a lower standard just to make sure everyone passes.
